Back in January, I accepted the KDS DAR High School Counselor position. I am a 1981 graduate of West End High School also known as the Patriots. After high school, it was sometime before I would receive my Bachelor of Science in Education degree and then later work toward my Master's Degree in School Counseling from Jacksonville State University.

So, how did I get to be a DAR High School Patriot? My journey began in the Fall of 1993 after the 93' Blizzard (and I'm not talking Dairy Queen). I taught elementary school for 7 years and worked on my Master's Degree in School Counseling. For the next 7 years, I spent time as an Elementary School Counselor and helping seniors on the side work on applying for scholarships. I knew then I wanted to work with high school students and help them discover their tomorrow. I began that dream the following year at Oneonta High School where I would be for the next 9 years. The next 3 years were spent at Albertville High School where I learned even more. Knowing I was getting close to retirement, I accepted a 1-year position at an elementary school helping develop their school counseling program. During that year, COVID 19 changed my direction. It was the Fall of 2020 where I applied for a school counselor position in Marshall County not realizing DAR Elementary School would be the stepping stone to DAR High School where I would become a Patriot once again!

So, here I am looking to continue this journey after 28 years in education. I am here to support the students, faculty/staff, and community as we find ways to continue creating a safe environment in the school setting at DAR High School.

I am looking forward to this upcoming school year! Please feel free to contact me with your questions and concerns! Go, PATRIOTS!
