Liz Clark

I was born in New York City and grew up on Long Island and in South Florida.  I graduated from Piper High School in Sunrise, Florida, in 1976, and from Presbyterian College in South Carolina in 1979, with a BS in Special Education. As a military wife, I lived in Germany, Texas, and New Jersey before finally settling in Alabama in 1986.  In 1993 I graduated from University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, with an MA in Gifted Education.  I have also completed additional graduate level coursework at The University of Texas, El Paso; Georgian Court College in Lakewood, New Jersey; and Alabama A & M University in Huntsville, Al.

The school year 2017-2018 is my 38 th year as a classroom teacher. I have taught all subjects in grades 4-12.  My first full-time teaching job was teaching adult basic education classes for the US Army. I have spent most of my career working with special education students, including working as a Gifted Education specialist for 7 years. This is my 17th year of teaching at DAR High School.  In addition to my teaching duties, I also sponsor the school yearbook, the Beta Club, and the 4-H club.  I am certified and highly qualified in the following areas:

  • Special Education P-12 with endorsements in Specific Learning Disabilities, Mental Retardation, and Gifted Education.
  • Elementary Education grades 1-6
  • Secondary Education English Language Arts grades 6-12
  • Secondary Education General Science grades 6-12
  • Secondary Education General Social Studies grades 6-12 
  • Family Consumer Science grades 6-12

I am married to a DAR graduate (Steve - Class of  1977).  I have six children of my own and one stepdaughter.  Son #1, Tommy, is married and is a chemical engineer in Madison, AL. Son #2, Davey, is a corporate lawyer who is currently is doing business consulting and corporate restructuring and lives in San Francisco with his wife.  Son #3, Danny (DAR Class of 2006) is in the United States Navy and is stationed in Portsmouth, Virginia, on the USS LaJolla.  Son #4, Mark, (DAR Class of 2008) is a police officer for the city of Guntersville. Son #5, Jeff is a member of the DAR Class of 2019 and my only daughter, Isabella is a member of the DAR Class of 2018. My stepdaughter, Kendi, lives in Crossville with her two teenage daughters.

In my free time, I enjoy reading, cooking, traveling, and scrapbooking/cardmaking.
