Liz Clark

I was born in New York City and grew up on Long Island and in South Florida.  I graduated from Piper High School in Sunrise, Florida, in 1976, and from Presbyterian College in South Carolina in 1979, with a BS in Special Education. As a military wife, I lived in Germany, Texas, and New Jersey before finally settling in Alabama in 1986.  In 1993 I graduated from University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, with an MA in Gifted Education.  I have also completed additional graduate level coursework at The University of Texas, El Paso; Georgian Court College in Lakewood, New Jersey; and Alabama A & M University in Huntsville, Al.

The school year 2019-2020 is my 40 th year as a classroom teacher. I have taught all subjects in grades 4-12.  My first full-time teaching job was teaching adult basic education classes for the US Army. I have spent most of my career working with special education students, including working as a Gifted Education specialist for 7 years. This is my 19th year of teaching at DAR High School.  In addition to my teaching duties, I also sponsor the school yearbook, the Beta Club, and the 4-H club.  I am certified and highly qualified in the following areas:

  • Special Education P-12 with endorsements in Specific Learning Disabilities, Mental Retardation, and Gifted Education.
  • Elementary Education grades 1-6
  • Secondary Education English Language Arts grades 6-12
  • Secondary Education General Science grades 6-12
  • Secondary Education General Social Studies grades 6-12 
  • Family Consumer Science grades 6-12

I am married to a DAR graduate (Steve - Class of  1977).  I have six children of my own, one stepdaughter, and four grandchildren.  Son #1, Tommy, is married and is a chemical engineer in Madison, AL. He and is wife are expecting their first child, a daughter, in September. Son #2, Davey, was trained as a corporate lawyer and does business consulting and corporate restructuring. He lives in San Francisco with his wife and twins, David and Edie.  Son #3, Danny (DAR Class of 2006) lives in Madison and works at CarMax, in addition to being an engineering student at UAH.  Son #4, Mark, (DAR Class of 2008) lives in Boaz and works at Boaz Discount Tires. He has two sons. Son #5, Jeff is a member of the DAR Class of 2019 and is a student at Calhoun Community College.  My only daughter, Isabella, is a member of the DAR Class of 2018. She is studying graphic design at Athens State College. My stepdaughter, Kendi, lives in Geraldine and has two adult daughters.

In my free time, I enjoy reading, cooking, and traveling.
